CAPA 95 Black - CHAMPIONS AT BALTIMORE MANIA

03/24/2012, 8:04pm (EDT)
By Neil Cooper

CAPA 95 Black Go Undefeated!

CAPA 95 Black won their 2nd tournament of the season - going undefeated in all 4 matches at Baltimore's Elite March Mania. Of the 4 teams the boys faced - 3 were ranked higher than CAPA 95 Black in the National Rankings CAPA 95 started strong, winning 2-0 against Concord SA Nitro, the Delaware State Cup Finalist. Next, the boys battled FC Elite 95, the PA East Challenge Cup Finalist and were victorious again with a score of 2-1. It was a match that CAPA 95 dominated the field, which was not reflective in the scoreline.

CAPA 95 returned on Sunday, already guaranteed a spot in the final and faced the New York White Plains Tyros and crushed the competition with a 4-1 win. The Tyros were a team ranked 200 places ahead of the CAPA  95 boys, before this match - so this was a HUGE upset and fired the boys up to head to the final match!

The Championship match, drew a familiar and local rival PA Classics Elite 95. The boys began their quest for victory and controlled the field and had excellent ball movement and possession. A goal, midway through the 1st half of play by Matthew Porter, set CAPA 95 on their way, but a penalty kick  for Classics tied the score to 1-1 at the half.

The boys recharged and refocused and set their game in motion for the 2nd half. They came out even stronger in attack and took the lead with a strike from T.J. Yurkovic. The boys played smart and solid defense and shutdown the Classics offensive attempts. They defended brilliantly and held on for the win.

This tournament was a huge achievement for the CAPA 95 boys and demonstrated their skill, commitment, drive and true teamwork. All 18 players on this team contributed to this effort and victory.

A fantastic set of results and proof that with hard work, determination and confidence - anything is possible - and they can compete with anyone.

Congratulations Boys!

CAPA 95 BLACK - WINS BIG at PA CLASSICS WINTER COLLEGE SHOWCASE

12/09/2011, 8:04pm (EST)
By Diane Grove

CAPA 95 Black Goes Undefeated!

CAPA 95 Black completed their first tournament of the 2011-12 season with a 100% winning record at the PA Classics Winter College Showcase. Integrating 4 new players into the squad, the boys played to an extremely high standard and finished with a flawless record demonstrating their superior play.

In game 1 vs. Coventry SA FCA95, the boys dominated with a 5-2 win, with a hat trick from Andrew Miller and 1 goal a piece each for TJ Yurkovic and Jared DeSandies. In game 2 vs. West Chester SC Eagles 95, another solid performance and victory was obtained. The boys delivered goals from Jared DeSandies, TJ Yurkovic and Matthew Porter.

Game 3 proved to be the toughest match with a formidable opponent in the Baltimore Bays Blue Lions. The game proved to be a challenge for the CAPA 95 boys but they still managed to come away with a 2-1 victory with goals from Andrew Miller and Justin Weaver. Encouragingly, this battle demonstrated that the boys are capable or grinding out a win even when not playing to their fullest potential.

"3 wins out of 3 matches equates to a huge success and was beyond our expectations," said head coach Neil Cooper. "With only a handful of practice sessions these boys looked like they had been a solid unit for years," added Cooper.

Neil looks forward to coaching and developing these boys to even more success in 2012!
